Advisory Board

Tom DeYoung has represented and worked with small-tomedium-sized businesses for nearly 20 years. He has
witnessed firsthand the characteristics of both business successes and failures. Merging his company with another in 1990, he has experience in succession planning and can empathize with both the financial and emotional aspects involved in mergers. In representing U.S. manufacturers while living in Germany for a five-year period (1985-1990), he gained an understanding of international business practices, including materials and product sourcing, exporting, shipping, and currency valuation.

Growing a $5 million manufacturing firm with 12 employees to a $60 million company with 160 employees in 15 years, Jerry Freda has experienced entrepreneurial success. Working in the food industry, his insight drove the company to be first to market with an idea that became an industry standard. His ability to anticipate opportunities in the marketplace brings an important strength to The Midwest Opportunity Fund and helps grow its Portfolio Companies.

A strong financial background, analytical insight, and the perspective of a successful entrepreneur are key attributes that Bruce Mattson brings to The Midwest Opportunity Fund. Bruce began his own company, Ty Brokerage, Inc., in 1984. He is President of the firm that serves as an independent order filler and trader on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Bill Niro is a practicing attorney with a specialty in intellectual property. Also a chemical engineer, Bill worked in industry and government before becoming an attorney. His business acumen led him to be one of the guiding forces and business model architects behind the Arena Football League. Bill has helped grow the once fledgling sport to a $100 million enterprise. Bill’s legal expertise in intellectual property, land use, environmental laws, technology, and litigation are invaluable to the Fund. He brings yet another experienced voice to the growth of Portfolio Companies and their operation.
