Investment Criteria
The Midwest Opportunity Fund is interested in businesses that fit the following
criteria:
- Likely, but not necessarily, in the following industries: Manufacturing,
Distribution, Technology
- Serving the business-to-business marketplace
- Generating $5 million to $30 million in sales
- Located primarily in the Midwestern United States
- Serving a specific market through a key competitive advantage (some examples
include a niche product, unique technology or product, patented product or technology,
well-developed distribution channel, stellar management team, outstanding sales
and marketing force, brand recognition, high barriers to entry limiting the competitor
base)
- Where the ownership is looking to develop an exit strategy, or looking for
help in a key business area in which The Midwest Opportunity Fund can provide
a solution and add value. Areas where the Fund can provide assistance include:
- Finance/Cost Controls
- Sales/Marketing
- Profit/Pension
- Consulting
- Experienced Management
- Where the ownership is looking for a combination of current proceeds and a
payout/earn-out based on future performance.
The Fund will avoid companies with the following business characteristics:
- Companies where the business operations rely on the inherent knowledge of
the owner or a few key people in the business
- Restaurants and non-scalable pure service businesses and
- Startup companies.
